Walker, situated in Livingston Parish, Louisiana, is a vibrant city in the United States. According to the 2010 census, the population was recorded at 6,138, which reflects a remarkable 28% increase over the past decade. Notably, Walker and Denham Springs stand out as the only parish municipalities classified as cities.
The region we now know as Walker has a rich history dating back to 1853, when it was founded by Michael Milton and his wife, Martha. Michael, a veteran of the War of 1812, along with his pioneering family from North Carolina, settled in an area in Alabama.
They later cleared an impressive 400 acres in the picturesque piney woods east of the Amite River and Denham Springs.
Recognizing the growth of this settlement, the Federal government established a post office named Milton Old Field in 1856, with Michael Milton appointed as the postmaster in 1858.
In a remarkable tribute to a prominent figure, the post office underwent a name change in 1890 and is now called the Dr. William Elliott Walker Post Office.
